Basics of Bus Accidents
Bus accidents are a scary experience whether you are a passenger of the bus or in a vehicle that is hit by a bus. When you are involved in an accident on or with a bus you are able to file a lawsuit against the driver who is at fault (usually as the result of negligence), the operator of the bus, and the bus company. You may be entitled to compensation for:
- Lost Wages
- Earning Capacity Losses
- Medical Bills
- Injuries
- Pain and Suffering
- Los of Consortium
- And other direct consequences of the accident
What to do After a Bus Accident
What you should do after bus accidents is similar to what you should do after a car accident. After an accident with a bus make sure that you collect as much information regarding the accident as possible. Gather contact information and names of witnesses, the information of the driver (including insurance, address and bus company), and take photographs of the scene if possible.
You will also want to look at your surroundings. Was there a defect in the road? Was there a blind spot caused by road design? Many times there are other parties at fault besides just the driver.
Finally, If you are injured, make sure to seek immediate medical treatment since insurance companies will discount the harm if you wait to seek treatment.
